# Payments

> Turn on store checkout methods so customers can pay. Your Join Markt plan bill is separate.

Store checkout uses the methods you turn on under **Payment methods** (Configure → Payments). Each row in that grid is a real gateway in the dashboard catalog. The [payment catalog](https://docs.joinmarkt.com/guides/payment-catalog.md) lists every id, name, and one-line description.

Checkout cannot take a paid order until at least one method is connected or set up. With none active, the buyer sees that the store has not set up payment methods yet.

## Connect and Setup

The catalog gives every method one action. The button on **Available Payment Methods** uses that label.

| Action | What you do | Methods |
| - | - | - |
| **Connect** | Link the provider (or open custom methods) and save it for this store | Stripe, PayPal, manual P2P, Custom Payment Method, and the other processors |
| **Setup** | Turn the method on inside Join Markt | Customer Balance, Cryptomus, NOWPayments, Join Markt Crypto |

Active methods show under **Connected Methods**. A method the platform has turned off stays unavailable and does not appear at checkout.

## Customer balance

**Customer Balance** (`customer-balance`) uses **Setup**.

Customers pay with store credit and balance already on their account. Once it is on, checkout can take that balance. The dashboard describes it as instant and fee-free.

## Cards and other processors

**Stripe** (`stripe`) uses **Connect**. Customers can pay with credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and other methods enabled on your Stripe account. Checkout uses Stripe Checkout.

These processors also use **Connect**. What each one accepts is in the [payment catalog](https://docs.joinmarkt.com/guides/payment-catalog.md):

Mollie, Square, SumUp, Revolut Business, Authorize.Net, Skrill Business, MisticPay — PIX, Rewarble, Shopify, Adyen, Lemon Squeezy, Whop, Overpay, PayMongo, Dodo Payments, Pandabase, MoneyMotion, and Amazon Payment Services.

## PayPal

**PayPal** (`paypal`) uses **Connect**. It is separate from Friends & Family.

Customers can pay with credit and debit cards and with PayPal Goods & Services. The connected method is Classic (email and IPN) or REST Orders API v2, using the credentials you save in the connect flow.

## Manual and P2P

These three use **Connect**. The customer pays you directly. You confirm the payment in **Orders**.

| ID | Name | What the customer does |
| - | - | - |
| `paypal-ff` | PayPal (Friends & Family) | Sends Friends & Family to your PayPal. You confirm in Orders. |
| `venmo-ff` | Venmo (Friends & Family) | Sends Friends & Family to your Venmo. You confirm in Orders. |
| `cash-app` | Cash App | Pays your Cashtag. You confirm in Orders. |

## Crypto

All three use **Setup**.

| ID | Name | What checkout accepts |
| - | - | - |
| `cryptomus` | Cryptomus | Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, and other cryptocurrencies |
| `nowpayments` | NOWPayments | Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, Litecoin, and 50+ cryptocurrencies |
| `join-markt-crypto` | Join Markt Crypto | BTC, LTC, and USDT through Join Markt’s private crypto gateway |

**Join Markt Crypto** is a **Premium** feature. Premium and Business include it. On Free, the grid shows Upgrade instead of Setup. Checkout lists it only after the method is enabled and at least one currency is selected. If the platform has not configured the gateway, setup cannot go live.

Cryptomus and NOWPayments are not plan-locked. The platform can still disable either one, or limit which currencies you can offer.

## Custom payments

**Custom Payment Method** (`custom`) uses **Connect**. That button opens **Custom methods**.

You define the method yourself: bank transfer, Wise, Payoneer, PayPal manual, and other instructions you write. Premium also covers collecting payment proofs on these methods.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Custom payments require **Premium** or **Business**. Free accounts see the upgrade gate on **Custom methods** and cannot create methods there.

No other catalog method is plan-locked.

## Your Join Markt plan is a different bill

Free, Premium, and Business are account billing. They are not store checkout gateways. Customers paying for a product never settle your SaaS invoice, and paying your plan does not connect a store method.

Plan prices, crypto upgrade, and invoices are in [Plans & billing](https://docs.joinmarkt.com/guides/plans-billing.md).

## Before you sell

1. Open **Payment methods** and Connect or Setup at least one method.
2. Confirm it appears under **Connected Methods**.
3. Place a small live or test order and confirm it reaches paid.

The full id list is the [payment catalog](https://docs.joinmarkt.com/guides/payment-catalog.md).
